Obs. [mod.L. līmōnium = L. līmōnion (Pliny), a. Gr. λειμώνιον, neut. of λειμώνιος, f. λειμών meadow.] Any plant of the genus Pyrola, esp. P. rotundifolia; wintergreen.
1548. Turner, Names of Herbes, 48. Limonium named of the Herbaries Pyrola, is named in duch wintergrowen . It maye be called in englishe wyntergrene. Ibid. (1562), Herbal, II. 39. The sede of Limonium is good agaynst all kyndes of flyxes.
