In the formicarium, or burrow of the ants, Mr. Belt repeatedly found the chambers partially filled with a flocculent spongy-looking mass, which proved to be composed of minutely subdivided pieces of leaves, penetrated and overgrown by the ramifications of a minute white fungus.
