sb. pl. Zool. The sing. is supplied by AMPHIPOD. [mod.L. amphipoda prop. adj. (sc. animalia); f. Gr. ἀμφί both + -ποδα (πούς) foot, -footed.] An order or sub-order of the sessile-eyed Crustacea, having feet of two kinds (in which they differ from the Isopoda), of which the common sand-hopper is an example.
