Med. [mod.L., a. Gr. ἀμαύρωσις, n. of action f. ἀμαυρό-ειν to darken, f. ἀμαυρ-ός dark, dim.] Partial or total loss of sight arising from disease of the optic nerve, usually without external change in the eye.
