v. Chem. Obs. rare. [f. E- pref.3 + LIXIVIATE to clear of lye.] trans. To clear from lixivium or lye; to refine thoroughly. Hence Elixiviate, Elixiviated ppl. a., that has lost its lye, that has lost its essential properties. Elixiviation, steeping in water for the sake of extracting the lye.
