1889. Daily News, 9 Dec., 5/3. The witness in a divorce case … being asked, ‘Are you the co-respondent?’ replied, ‘I am the alleged co-respondent.’ ‘Never mind the “alleged,”’ said the Judge, and very properly, for that the witness was the co-respondent there was no question.
