Arch. [It. cavetto, dim. of cavo, f. L. cav-us hollow: see CAVE.] A hollowed moulding, whose profile is the quadrant of a circle. It is principally used in cornices (Gwilt, Encycl. Archit.).

1816. J. Smith, Panorama Sci. & Art, I. 174. The bedmould should consist of an ovolo, fillet, and cavetto.
1876. Gwilt, Encycl. Archit., 8056. The cavetto, mouth, or hollow is chiefly used as a crowning moulding . By workmen it is frequently called a casement.
