Bot. Pl. -ides. [mod.L., f. Gr. κάρυ-ον nut + ὄψις appearance.] A small one-seeded dry indehiscent fruit, whose pericarp adheres to the seed throughout so as to form one body with it, as in wheat and other kinds of corn.
