A lightish-yellow building-stone found near Caen in Normandy; it is at first very soft, but hardens on exposure.

1762.  Ipswitch Jrnl., 2 Jan., 2/1. The Spanish Sloop, mentioned last Week to have been carried into Plymouth by the Scorpion Sloop, was laden with Caen Stone, and bound to the Havannah.

1894.  Newcastle Daily Chron., 25 Aug., 5/5. The Tabernacle is a beautiful piece of ecclesiastical work, designed by Dunn and executed in Caen stone.
