var. of BILDERS, narrow-leaved water-parsnip; in Ireland water-cress. [It has been shown by the Rev. A. L. Mayhew, in N. & Q., Ser. vii. III. 365, that the etymological form is (in the sing.) biller, adopted from the Irish biolar, a late variant of biorar water-cress:OIr. biror (corresp. to Welsh berwr water-cress), f. bior, bir water, well, spring. The forms billern and billers, bilders are plural. The word appears in med.L. as berula, and is the F. berle = Sium angustifolium (Littré). It is also discussed by J. L. G. Mowat in Alphita (Anecd. Oxon.), 21, s.v. Berula.]
