1823.  Henry, Elem. Chem. (ed. 9), II. 667. The oxides of common metals (copper, lead, mercury, &c.) decompose it [sc. hydroxanthic acid] by giving up their oxygen to the hydrogen of the acid, and the xanthogene unites with the metal, forming xanthides.
