Min. [f. the name of the discoverer, J. G. Vivian; named by Werner, 1817.] A phosphate of iron usually occurring in crystals of blue and green color.
1823. W. Phillips, Elem. Introd. Min., 238. Phospbate of Iron, Vivianite, is of various shades of blue and green, sometimes bluish-green.
1867. Bloxam, Chem., 324. The phosphates of protoxide and sesquioxide of iron are found associated in the mineral known as vivianite or native Prussian blue.
1884. Times (weekly ed.), 19 Sept., 3/2. A small gold coin, doubled up, was found within a lump of bone and vivianite.
Hence Vivianitized a., encrusted with vivianite.
1870. Illustr. Lond. News, 1 Jan., 12/3. Great quantities of vivianitised bones were found.
