1836–41. Brande, Chem. (ed. 5), 1198. On evaporation [of an extract from the root of Scabiosa succisa] a yellow acid product is obtained: in this state Berzelius proposes to call it verdous acid.
1843. Penny Cycl., XXVI. 256/1. Berzelius … proposes to call the colourless the verdous and the coloured the verdic acid.
